UCEDD (Iowa’s University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities at the Center for Disabilities and Development) has developed a plan for delivering training to paraprofessionals who work in the community with students in work based learning. This plan includes a comprehensive curriculum and details for delivering content in an entirely virtual format. There is no cost to districts in GHAEA or to the para for participation; in fact, both the district and para could receive a small stipend as an incentive for participation. The UCEDD will pilot this training throughout the fall semester of 2020.   District Special Education Coordinators received a direct invitation, but other special education leaders who may be interested in learning more about this opportunity to provide training to paraprofessionals involved in work based learning for students with disabilities, can join us for a Zoom informational meeting on July 16th from 2:30  PM to 3:30 PM. We know that Fall will be a complicated time for schools as we return to learn, but please consider learning more about this opportunity for paraprofessional training that will be available online.  If you have not received a direct invitation to this informational meeting and need the Zoom link or other information, please contact Ron Russell at rrussell@ghaea.org
We Need Your Help!

Green Hills AEA is seeking volunteers from our community to help make masks for the deaf and hard of hearing students our agency serves, as well as many other students receiving speech services that may benefit from this type of mask as well. The mask design linked in the appeal contains a clear vinyl cut out allowing for the mouth to be seen, a key component in communication for students receiving these services.
Our agency serves about 200 deaf and hard of hearing students. We are striving to accumulate enough masks for each student, their family, and teachers. For more information, click here!

As a precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, all Green Hills AEA offices are closed until further notice. If you would like to reach our staff by email, please visit the staff listing under the directory tab. We continue to work closely with the Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Public Health to monitor the impact of COVID-19 and make decisions for the health and wellbeing of our staff and schools.
